Form over function, or function over form?
Before embarking on any design process, it is essential to determine which takes precedence for the particular piece at hand—form or function. This project reinforced how crucial technical details are to the overall design. For instance, the initial focus was primarily on the visual aesthetic while designing the pulley lights. However, when the mechanism was to be analyzed, it became evident that the design needed to be adapted to accommodate the technical requirements. This experience highlighted the delicate balance between aesthetics and functionality, demonstrating how form must often be shaped by function to achieve beauty and practicality.
